Anyway, the kids got more comfortable in the water as we spent more time on the beach, as you can see from these pictures.
They even started swimming a little without their water toys, although only in very shallow water, which is OK since they haven't learned to swim yet.
OK, so maybe that's more like crawling along the rocks under water.

Aimee taught the kids to play some water games.
The German lady on the right side of this pic was fascinated with our kids and said she was amazed at how well-bhaved they were and how they helped set up our "camp site".

The girls made some friends at the beach; a German girl and an Italian girl of about 8 or 9. It was interesting to watch them together because none of them spoke each other's language, but one way or another they communicated enough to play games together and make plans to see each other the next day.

We even got Heidi out to the beach one day.

She's so scared of everything that we usually just leave her at the apartment, but this time she was really good. She barked at a couple people who tried to pet her, but besides that she did really well. She spent most of the day in the shade of our beach umbrella watching the kids in the water. She ran up to the water a bunch of times, but she was too scared to get in.
Abi took a nice, long nap one day. She was exhausted from playing at the beach all morning.

Every evening we went back to the apartment and relaxed.
The portable DVD players came in handy because Aimee and I could watch one DVD in our room - the living room - while the kids watched a kids' movie in their room.Playing at the beach is hard work!

That's about it! I'll post about the end of our trip later.
